Feb. Club meeting Posted Saturday, January 27, 2007 by Jim Britt
This is to announce that we will have elections for one opening on the ABC Board of Directors (because we need 6 and only elected 5 so far). According to the Bylaws, the membership in attendance at the meeting will elect that Director. We have one nomination already and others will be accepted at the meeting.
The ABC message boards are in the process of moving to this new site and though the move is finally complete there are a few changes and modifications that will need to be made over the next couple of days. With that known the boards will be locked for at least two days. You will be able to view posts but you will not be able to make changes. Please bear with us during this switch. It has been a long job to get the boards moved intact but we are almost through. On the plus side, once they are live on the new site the transition should be seamless to you the user.
It is again time to register for this year's version
of RAGBRAI. Gail Northcutt is the ABC coordinator for our reserved spots each year. If you know about RAGBRAI, you will probably know that you almost have to have an invitation or use a voucher. The Arkansas Bicycle Club gets a certain number of spots each year and they go fast. ABC riders need to contact Gail Northcutt and let her know they are planning to attend using one of our vouchers and they have until February 22nd, 2007 to get their fee and signed waiver to her. The actual registration is on-line this year at ragbrai.com but you need to contact Gail if you want to try to use one of our slots.
The new web site is working great and thanks a million to Doug Pope for all his hard work. We are doing some training today to get the users up to speed and soon there will be even more great information on the site.
I highly recommend that you download a free news reader so you can get the news updates from the club as soon as they are posted. It is really cool.
The one complication we have encountered is moving the message boards. There is a real possibility that we will have to start from scratch on the boards if I can't get them to move this weekend. No big deal but you will have to re-register and we will loose all the old messages. Hopoefully I can find an answer to the problem this weekend.
Copped this off the Bike Arkansas Forums....this race is a blast if you're interested in road racing or just improving your fitness...the route is exactly how it sounds :-) The race is up in Northwest Arkansas around HogEye/Prairie Grove and it's great to just get yourself back into shape! Even when you get shelled...the route is magnificent!
2007 Hell's Kitchen Road Race
The 4th annual 2007 Hell's Kitchen Road Race will is scheduled for March 18th at 10am.
Last years event was hampered a bit by cold and wet weather. Hopefully that won't happen this year and we will see 250 racers in Fayetteville for the first road race of the year for Arkansas and Oklahoma.
Spread the word about one of the most difficult and FUN one day races in the area. Not sure what's up with the Dickson Street Cycling Club site. Says it's still under construction....sigh* - not sure where the registration info is at....? You might keep an eye out over at the CARVE Forums for registration info.
Jim Britt sends word of the Ozone Clean-Air Survey....
"My friend is working on this survey and it will be of concern to us bicycle riders. It doesn't take long. There is a link on a bicycling and walk site that might be interesting. See below
I would really appreciate your taking about five minutes of your time to complete a survey for Ozone Action Days that I'm working on with Metroplan. We have not had a great response (which is not surprising) to this online survey, but we need some more input by Monday. So if you would click on the link below and complete the survey I would really appreciate your help. I know, it's boring -- Ozone Action Days (Yawn), but I promise it won't take but a few mintues. Thanks in advance.
Here is the link to the survey: (warning - survey in Flash, if your flash player is not up to date...the survey will most likely not work)
For those of you itching to sign-up for an ABC Membership, the online membership tool is now ready to use. We've already had several folks sign-up. If you want to wait....we will have detailed instructions up shortly on how it works. Several of you have already purchased ABC memberships last Fall...if you can be patient, we're going to import those into the application and send you access. Give us some time to get the import complete and will let you know.
Ugh...saw this over at Bicycle Retailer...
Cannondale Voluntarily Recalls 145 of its 2007 Road Bikes...
Payment gateway is still in "recall mode". Sorry for the delays. Other items under construction or moving also. Thanks for your patience.
New Hot Springs Bicycle Club Website here...
Hope to see a good crowd at the meeting tonight!
We meet at the Cornerstone Pub, at 7:00 PM 1/11/07. Don't confuse it with the smoking pub next door. We should be upstairs and it's a few doors up Main St. in North Little Rock from City Hall. I was told the Harlem Globetrotters are playing at Alltel at 7:00 PM also, so consider the traffic. A few of us will be riding down the River from Little Rock's trailhead circle above the BDB at 5:45 PM but be sure to call me if the weather looks bad (912-1449). Jim
From the Forums....
Please do not sign-up for a ABC membership! We're trying to do some debugging with the payment gateway and we already have folks trying to sign-up. Several of you already have memberships from last year. We need to import your current membership into the application. Will let you know when the gateway is ready.
Check the forums now....they appear to be correct where you can login operating off the IP only.
Sorry about the forum glitch. I'm working on it now, and hope to have the login restored tonight. The forums appear to be viewable but logging in to post is glitched.
Looks like the domain name has officially swapped over which means your seeing the site updates. Several items will be finished up or tweaked over the next month. Here's a list:
Officers E-mails will be corrected to actual links. (this was done to knock spam down) Payment gateway will be brought online Content will be added to various pages over the next few weeks
Chill out to some of Andrea Marchesini's Di-Fusion samples while your waiting.
Just tested the RSS News reader feed and all the ABC news was incoming! RSS News Reader is free - grab it here.
Probably the nicest feature coming online shortly, will be the ability to manage your ABC membership online. Until the domain name resolves and we get the current membership imported into the database, please do not attempt to buy a membership online. The application is currently in test mode and nothing will happen.
We'll let you know here as soon as it's ready. Current members will get an e-mail with all the details as soon as the membership application is online and live.
K..Ian is moving it tonight...!
We were going to move the domain name to the new host this weekend, but got too busy. Planning to do the transfer next weekend. After the domain name is picked up, we'll begin the final testing of the more critical functions. Some items maybe offline or not working.
The Payment gateway will take a few days to do the final configuration with the domain name transfer. Once the gateway comes online, you will be able to manage your ABC membership online.
Thanks for your patience.
When: Starting Wednesday, Jan. 3 (Gathering around 6:15 PM with a start time of 6:30.)
Where: KATV-7, Good Morning Arkansas Studio space, River Market. (The entrance is at the side of the studio, the studio is across from the Flying Saucer.)
What to Bring: Bike, Trainer, Self, towel, water bottles. There is a restroom/change area that we can access as necessary. We may be able to leave the trainers at the studio, depending on space availability and your willingness to hold the station harmless for any losses.
What to expect: 45-50 minutes of spin intervals, focusing on both steady state and power intervals with several simulated hill climbs for good measure. This is a serious and hard workout, but you can reduce your RPM's based on your fitness level. This is a modified version of a real Lance workout, set to music. We got good feedback last year, people seemed to think it helped them in their spring training. We usually go somewhere for a little refreshment after we are done.
It is helpful if you have cadence on you computer-the workout is based on cadence.
If you have any questions, let me know. A special thanks to Tim V and KATV management for letting us use the space.
Hope to see ya there.
