ABC NewsBicycle Education Classes Posted Thursday, December 25, 2008 by Jim Britt

Smart Cycling Classes (previously Road 1) are scheduled for the following dates:

January 23-24, 2009
February 20-21, 2009
March 20-21, 2009

Locations to be announced at least two weeks prior to each class. The course fee is $50 per person, which can be claimed as a charitable donation to BACA, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Participation is by pre-registration only, so that we can have sufficient handouts and class material available for everyone.

If you plan to use that new bike (or your old one) to ride to work or do errands around the neighborhood, BACA's Bicycle Commuting Workshop will be held on January 30, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., at the pavilion at Cook's Landing. This class is for adult cyclists who have recently started, or who are thinking about, commuting to work or school, or simply running errands around your community by bike. This three-hour follow-up to Road I covers topics including how to develop and encourage a commuting program in your workplace, bicycle choices and set-up for commuting, dealing with carrying cargo and clothing, route planning and selection, bike parking, riding in bad weather such as extreme heat, cold and rain, and night riding. The course will include an optional night ride in the Northshore Industrial Park to familiarize students with riding during the hours of darkness, and the use and effectiveness of bike head and tail lights and reflective gear. The course fee is $20 per student, which again is a deductible donation to BACA.

Additional information and class updates can be found at http://www.bikeleague.org/cogs/resources/findit/?courses=1&instructors=1&state=AR&submit.x=36&submit.y=13

ABC NewsChristmas party Posted Sunday, December 14, 2008 by Jim Britt

The party was great. Thanks to Denise Cole for again organizing it with party helpers Will Barns and Monty Cole on the sound system. Also thanks to the Little Rock Roadrunners' Mary Wells for coming for the setup as well. Corky and Claibanne were not able to stay, but they brought the wine. Everyone did a great job bringing their favorite foods and eating most of it.

NOTE: We have 1 bluish plate left over. Contact me at jobritt@sbcglobal.net to claim it.
