Nationally Known Cyclist at Tour de Rock Posted Friday, May 28, 2010 by Jim Britt
Stan Havlick is the first person to bicycle across 6 continents all in the name of cancer. After his wife's cancer diagnosis, Stan decided to take action and completed a 14-year quest to cycle nearly 20,000 miles coast-to-coast across all of earth's six bike-able continents. And now he treks to Little Rock to join the CARTI Tour de Rock Registration festivities. This is a man that knows a few things about long-distance cycling. Stan will give a brief presentation on his travels on Friday, June 11th from 6-7 PM at the Riverfront Wyndham Hotel in North Little Rock. Please come out and show your support! Ordinance to ban livestock and exotic animals on BDB Posted Wednesday, May 12, 2010 by Ian Hope
UPDATE: I was just informed the meeting is on May 25th instead of the 24th. Make note please. Same time just a different day.
I just found out that the Pulaski County Quorum Court will be voting on the ordinance to ban livestock and exotic animals from the Big Dam Bridge (I can't believe this isn't a given) on May 25th (date change) at 201 South Broadway. Meeting time is 7:00 pm. I think we need cyclist to turn out for this and support the ban. The more the better.
Apparently there has been at least one instance of a group of horse riders crossing the Big Dam Bridge. Can you believe it?! This is one thing we can not tolerate as user of the bridge. They have no place on it, especially since they can not legally ride their horses on the South side of the bridge (in Little Rock parks)
People need to make it to the Quorum Court meeting to support this ban. I have been told by one court member that people are coming out opposed to it.
For those don't realize it the Pulaski County Quorum Court is the governing body for the BDB. It sets all rules for its use.

River Trail partial closure for Riverfest Posted Tuesday, May 11, 2010 by Jim Britt
Closure of the River Trail from the west entrance of the Medical Mile all the way down to the Clinton Library, from Friday, May 21 until Tuesday, June 1.
Riverfest closure during Memorial Day weekend typically includes the River Market area as well as the Medical Mile and Riverfront Park, and you will be unable to use the Little Rock end of the Junction Bridge due to the same closure of this trail section. If you're used to using the Junction Bridge as part of your commute, you can still use the Main Street or Broadway bridges.
North Little Rock's Riverfront Park has been closed in the past during the same time frame, but with most of the music venues moving to the south side of the River, it's uncertain just yet what impact this will have on bike commuters on the North Side. Access to the Main Street Bridge may be restricted to the sidewalk, but the Broadway Bridge is usually a reliable way to get from LR to NLR and back, and while it's a good bit out of the way, the Big Dam Bridge will be open and unaffected. Pinnacle Mt. Bike Trails....! Posted Monday, May 10, 2010 by Sprokets
Pinnacle Mt. Bike Trails
You asked for it, you’ve stayed awake at night thinking about it, you’ve wished upon every star, plane, satellite and UFO you’ve seen in the night sky and now is your chance to help make it happen.
Let’s get the mountain bike trails at Pinnacle Mountain State Park finished! The trail has been flagged, raked and a lot of work is already done. Now to fine tune this baby: lopping, moving a few rocks, armoring some streams that kind of stuff.
We are having a working party to give area mountain bikers a chance to be part of the creation of a wonderful new mountain bike trails system.
What if you can’t make it? Well, we have a set up so that you can donate to the Pinnacle Mountain State Park trail fund. Make the check out to Pinnacle Mountain State Park and make sure you note in the memo line that it is for the mountain bike trails. This will help us buy materials to build bridges, signs and trail head bulletin boards. See the park staff at the visitor center for details.
Date: Saturday May 15th.
Time: 7:45 am until we can work no more (mid to late afternoon)
Where: The parking lot at the Ouachita Trail Head near the Pinnacle
Mountain State Park Visitors Center, off Pinnacle Valley Road.
What to bring:
A great attitude and jovial personality.
Sturdy shoes
Work gloves
Water or drink (we recommend a hydration pack)
Trail snacks
Bug Spray
Nippers (you know, little pruning shears)
Loppers (you know, big pruning shears)
Hand saws
Shovels
Crow/pry bars for moving rocks
Weedeater with extra line
Eye protection if you have it.
Sledgehammer (not the Peter Gabriel song, it’s sooooo 80’s)
Extra tools
A completed copy of the Park Volunteer Release Form
http://drop.io/ArkansasOutside/asset/volunteerform-pdf
What’s provided:
CARP will provide pizza for lunch (please bring your own drink. If you plan to work after lunch, please no beer; save it for after you are finished working) that was Daron’s idea, such a hater.
Shuttle service to and from work areas.
Did I say pizza from the great folks at CARP?
Do not bring:
Do not bring your bike, they are not allowed on the trails yet. (I know, I know that’s a tough one)
Chainsaws (unless you were asked specifically to bring one)
Rakes

Specialized Recalls Mt. Bikes.... Posted Thursday, May 6, 2010 by Sprokets
From BRAIN....
WASHINGTON, D.C. (BRAIN)—The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Specialized Bicycle Components, have issued a voluntary recall of about 1,350 Epic 26-inch and Era 26-inch mountain bikes.
The shock absorber mount can break and the shock absorber can make contact with the wheel spokes, posing a fall hazard to the rider. No incidents/injuries have been reported.
According to Specialized, the company has been proactive about addressing the issue...read more....
